Rosie and James’ Wedding
Last weekend we drove down to Dartmouth in Devon for Rosie and James’ Wedding (photos here). The trip down was relatively uneventful, except that as we got closer to Dartmouth it became increasingly misty. Arriving at our B&B (Hill View House, much recommended), we went for a walk around the town, which, although it was drizzeling, was very nice. We then met up with some friends and after trying what seemed to be all restaurants in Dartmouth, finally found a nice Indian place that was still prepared to serve us.
The next day in the morning we took the ferry out to where the wedding was going to take place and went for a brief walk along the coastal path there (very nice). Back to the B&B, change, and back to the ferry to go out to the wedding. We met up with some more people and convinced them to also take the ferry, but unfortunately it had left just as we got to the jetty, so a few of the group piled into a taxi, while the rest waited for the ferry to return. It did and after a mad rush up the steps, past the bride, and into the church, we got there just in time.
After the service we had some very nice tea & scones, before we got on two boats to go up the Dart to where the reception was being held. The weather, which had been awful the day before, had decided to improve and it was wonderfully sunny. The reception was great fun, with Rosie and James arriving by boat and James having to carry Rosie through the water to the riverbank. He performed his duty perfectly and in some of the pinkest swimming trunks I have ever seen (have a look at the photos
. The food was also excellent, with some lovely spit-roast lamb and afterwards there was English Country dancing, which was great fun, even if somewhat dangerous
.
The next day we briefly met James again to drop off the wedding present, which we had left in the B&B the day before and then drove along the coast to a little place called Beer (honest), which had been recommended by the owner of the B&B. There we went for a walk along the beach and ate some delicious, locally caught fish&chips, before driving back to Milton Keynes.
